Spain

Welcome to Nomadmin Sorted — your nomad admin, sorted. If you’re planning a move to Spain as a digital nomad, freelancer, or remote-working entrepreneur, this is the practical, no-fluff version of everything you need — organized by when you actually need it, not by which government office happens to handle it.

A note on accuracy: immigration and tax rules change every year in Spain, and fees get updated by ministerial order. Everything here was researched and cross-checked in 2026 against official sources wherever possible. Treat it as a genuinely reliable starting map, not legal advice — confirm anything with real money or visa status riding on it against the official portal linked, or with a lawyer or gestor, before you act on it.

Before you arrive

The Digital Nomad Visa is the one thing you genuinely can’t do once you’ve already landed — get this sorted from your home country first.

After you arrive

Once you’re in Spain, work through these roughly in order:

  1. Sign a rental agreement — you don’t need a NIE to do this.
  2. Get empadronado at your local Ayuntamiento — nearly everything else depends on this one document.
  3. Book your TIE and NIE appointment within 30 days of arrival.
  4. Open a bank account — a neobank works immediately with just a passport.
  5. Register with Hacienda and, if self-employed, with Social Security as an autónomo.
  6. If you qualify, file for the Beckham Law tax regime — you have a hard 6-month deadline, and it’s worth a lot of money.
  7. Get your public healthcare SIP card.
  8. Get a local SIM card.
