If you’re self-employed on the Digital Nomad Visa, you register in the RETA (Régimen Especial de Trabajadores Autónomos) through the Seguridad Social’s Importass portal, accessed via Cl@ve Permanente, Cl@ve PIN, a digital certificate, or SMS.
Tarifa plana (flat-rate) for new autónomos
€80/month for the first 12 months, regardless of income, extendable at the same rate for months 13–24 if your projected net income stays below Spain’s minimum wage (~€17,094/year in 2026). To qualify: no autónomo registration in the prior 2 years (3 if you’ve used this benefit before), and no outstanding debts with Social Security or Hacienda. ⚠ Confirm the current figure directly on seg-social.es before relying on it — this is set by ministerial order and has changed in past years.
Modelo 037
The simplified census declaration filed with the Agencia Tributaria to register your self-employed activity. File this (or the fuller Modelo 036 if 037’s eligibility criteria don’t fit) with Hacienda first or simultaneously with your RETA registration — they’re two separate agencies.
Next step: if you qualify, file for the Beckham Law within 6 months of this registration date — it’s a hard deadline and worth real money.
